Generally, The Dark Knight Rises is entertaining. Unlike its predecessor, however, the entertainment’s mostly cheap–explosions are common enough that they become predictable, and the drama and conflict is noticeably manufactured, enough to make an astute viewer remember he is watching a comic book movie, not the crime drama fans of Nolan (director) have come to expect. Worse still, Nolan edited the movie poorly: he forces the audience to extrapolate too often from off screen action, yet also subjects them to many superfluous scenes. Despite suffering from these visible flaws, The Dark Knight Rises does just enough to grab the audience’s attention; while it won’t hold up to serious contemplation, it’s a worthwhile diversion, especially if you enjoy comic books.
